A bedside table is one of those purchases people tend to rush. The bed gets all the attention, the mattress gets researched carefully, and the bedside table gets picked as an afterthought. That’s a mistake — not because the bedside table is decorative, but because you interact with it more than almost any other piece of furniture in the room. First thing in the morning. Last thing at night. Every time you reach for your phone or your water or your glasses in the dark. A piece that does that job well, built from solid wood that stays stable and doesn’t wobble under daily use, is worth choosing carefully.
Craftkala’s bedside tables for bedroom are handcrafted at our workshop in Sector 37D, Gurugram using kiln-dried sheesham, mango, and acacia wood. We have 31 designs in the range — every one of them solid wood, ISO and BIFMA certified, available in walnut, natural, and light walnut finishes.
What to Actually Look for in a Bedside Table
Height first. Your side table for bedroom should sit level with the top of your mattress — not below it, not significantly above. Most people sleep with a mattress that sits 55–65cm off the floor once the base is factored in. Our bedside tables range from 55cm to 65cm in height, so check your mattress height before choosing. Reaching down or stretching up to find your phone at midnight gets old quickly.
Storage second. A bedside cabinet with drawers is more useful than a simple shelf for most people — drawers keep things contained and the surface stays clear. Our drawer designs like the Arlo, Daxon, Lexon, and Vayra all have at least one full-depth drawer with smooth-running runners. If you prefer open shelving alongside a drawer — useful if you read before sleeping and want books within reach without opening a drawer — the Elara and Zavian both have this configuration.
Size third. A small bedroom side table works better in tighter spaces than an oversized piece that crowds the gap between the bed and the wall. The standard gap between a bed frame and the nearest wall or wardrobe in Indian bedrooms is roughly 45–60cm. These are ideal as small bedroom side tables — the Corin, Nivra, Tivra — sitting at 40–45cm wide, leaving enough clearance to move comfortably while still giving you a usable surface and storage.
Our Bedside Table Range — What’s Available
Our wooden bedside table collection covers three broad configurations, depending on what you need the piece to do.
Single drawer with surface — the most common choice. A bedside table with drawer in this configuration gives you a contained space for the things you don’t want on show — charger cables, medicines, reading glasses — and a clear top for a lamp and whatever you’re currently reading. The Arlo, Ronin, Calin, and Orbin all follow this layout. Clean lines, no unnecessary bulk.
Double drawer — better if you’re sharing a room and each person needs their own organised storage on one side. The Lexon and Mavon both have two full-depth drawers stacked vertically, giving you considerably more storage without increasing the footprint. A good choice if your king size bed with storage already handles your bulkier items and you just need organised surface-level storage on the bedside.
Drawer plus open shelf — the Elara, Zavian, and Ember have a drawer at the top and an open shelf below. The shelf is useful for books, a small plant, or a decorative tray. It also makes the piece feel visually lighter than a fully closed cabinet, which helps in smaller bedrooms where heavy furniture can make the space feel compressed.
Wood Choice — Sheesham vs Mango vs Acacia
All three wood types we use are solid wood — no engineered cores, no veneer surfaces. The difference between them is in density, grain character, and how they age.
Sheesham is our most-used timber for wooden bedside table drawers because of its density. It’s harder than mango and acacia, which means drawer edges don’t chip and surfaces don’t dent from daily use. The grain is tighter and more uniform — if you want a clean, consistent look, sheesham is the right call. Our bedside cabinet wooden pieces in sheesham — the Arlo, Daxon, Vayra, Zilo — all have this tighter, more formal grain character.
Mango wood has more variation in the grain — you’ll see wider patterns, occasional colour shifts between heartwood and sapwood, and a slightly more organic feel. It’s marginally lighter in weight than sheesham, which matters if the piece needs to be moved for cleaning. The Nyra, Ember, and Cylin are mango wood designs for those who prefer a more natural, less uniform look.
Acacia sits between the two in terms of grain character — denser than mango with slightly more visible figure than sheesham. It’s naturally water-resistant, which makes it a good choice if your bedroom tends to be humid or if the bedside table will be near a window.
Pairing Your Bedside Table with the Rest of the Bedroom
A bed side table wooden piece works best when it’s matched — or at least coordinated — with the rest of the room. If your bed is sheesham in walnut finish, your bedside tables should be the same. Mixing wood types across a bedroom isn’t always wrong, but mixing finishes usually is — a walnut bed against a natural-finish bedside table will look like a mismatch rather than a deliberate contrast.
All our bedside tables are available in the same three finishes as our bed frames — walnut, natural, and light walnut — so coordinating is straightforward. If you’re starting from scratch with the bedroom, our bedroom furniture collection lets you pick a wooden king size bed or queen size bed with storage and match everything to the same finish across the room.
Beyond the bed and the side tables with drawers for bedroom, a well-finished bedroom usually benefits from a accent chair for bedroom in the corner — useful for reading, for putting on shoes, or simply for giving the room a second focal point beyond the bed. Our accent chair range is available in the same wood finishes as the bedside pieces. A TV unit in matching wood at the foot of the bed completes the room without the wall-mounted TV looking out of place against solid wood furniture.
Practical Details — Delivery, Showroom, Sizing
Our bedside wooden table range is delivered flat-packed across India, typically within 7–14 working days. Assembly is straightforward — most pieces take under 20 minutes with the included hardware. EMI options are available at checkout for orders above a certain value.
If you’re in or near Gurugram, our showroom at Khasra No. 297/5, Gadoli Kalan, Sector 37D is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm. Seeing the pieces in person — opening the drawers, checking the weight of the top, comparing the finishes side by side — is worth the visit if you’re buying a set of two for a double bedroom. Two bedside tables that look slightly different in finish on screen almost always look consistent in person under the same light.
