Queen Size Beds in Solid Wood Handcrafted at Our Gurugram Workshop

Most bedrooms in Indian homes sit between 120 and 160 square feet. A king-size bed fills that space quickly leaving little room for anything else. A single bed leaves too much empty space. A queen-size bed is, in most cases, the correct answer: enough sleeping surface for two adults, enough floor around it to move comfortably, and proportions that suit the room rather than dominate it.

At Craftkala, our queen size beds are built at our own workshop in Sector 37D, Gurugram using kiln-dried sheesham, mango, and teak wood the same timber range as our full king size bed with storage collection. Every bed is ISO and BIFMA certified, which means it’s been independently tested for structural load, joint durability, and surface performance not just approved by us. All designs are available in both queen and king sizing, so you can match across a room or across bedrooms in the same home.

What Queen Size Actually Means Dimensions That Matter

The Indian standard for a queen size bed is 60 inches wide by 78 inches long approximately 152cm x 198cm. That’s 12 inches narrower than a king and the same length. For a bedroom under 130 square feet, the queen gives you roughly 90cm of clearance on either side when placed centered against the wall — enough for a bedside table for bedroom and comfortable movement without the room feeling tight.

If you’re unsure whether queen or king is right for your room, measure the wall your bed will sit against. If it’s under 13 feet, queen is almost always the better call. The extra 12 inches a king adds doesn’t improve sleep quality it just compresses the room. According to sleep research published by the, queen size beds are the most commonly purchased bed size globally precisely because they balance sleep surface area with room usability the extra width of a king rarely translates to meaningfully better sleep for most couples.

Queen Size Beds with Storage Our Most Popular Format

Storage is the first question most of our customers ask about. A queen size bed with storage solves the single biggest problem in Indian bedrooms not enough space for bedding, seasonal clothing, and the items that don’t have a clear home anywhere else.

We offer two storage mechanisms in our queen size range. The first is a box storage queen beda fixed compartment under the mattress platform, accessed by lifting the mattress. No moving parts, nothing to service. The Zolfur and Reuford designs are available in queen sizing in this configuration both in sheesham wood, both with clean headboard profiles that work in contemporary and traditional interiors.

The second is hydraulic storag a gas-lift mechanism that raises the mattress base with a single hand. This is the better choice if you’re accessing the storage frequently, or if you find the manual lift awkward. The Hurley, Walter, and Raulkner are all available in queen size with hydraulic lift. The mechanism on these is the same as our king size models tested to 10,000 lift cycles under BIFMA load standards before leaving the workshop.

A note on choosing between the two: box storage gives you more usable volume inside the compartment because there’s no mechanism taking up space. Hydraulic gives you easier daily access. If the storage is for seasonal items you access twice a year, box. If it’s for bedsheets and clothing you rotate monthly, hydraulic.

Queen Size Beds Without Storage When the Room Doesn’t Need It

If your bedroom already has a built-in wardrobe or a wooden sideboard handling your storage, a non-storage queen bed is often the cleaner choice. It keeps the frame lighter, the visual base less heavy, and the room from feeling like storage has taken over.

Our non-storage queen designs the Aurelian, Lyric, Myra, Nuvon, Olira, Prysm, Quorin, Rydel, Sylva, Hestia, and Indra all share the same solid wood construction as the storage models. The difference is purely functional. These designs vary in headboard height and profile from the low-slung, minimal headboard on the Nuvon to the tall panelled headboard on the Rydel, which suits rooms where the bed is meant to be the clear focal point.

Wood Types in Our Queen Size Range

All our queen size beds are solid wood no engineered cores, no veneer surfaces applied over particle board. The three timber types we use each have different characteristics worth understanding before choosing.

Sheesham wood queen bed sheesham (Indian rosewood) is the densest and hardest timber in our range. A Janka hardness of around 1,660 lbf means the joints stay tight, the surface resists marking, and the frame handles years of daily load without loosening. It’s naturally oily, which helps it resist the humidity swings of Indian climate particularly important in monsoon months when lower-quality wood swells and distorts. Most of our hydraulic storage queen beds are sheesham Zolfur, Reuford, Hurley, Walter.

Mango wood queen bed mango is slightly lighter than sheesham with more visible grain variation. The colour shifts between heartwood and sapwood give each piece a more organic, individual character. It suits rooms going for a natural, less formal look. It’s also one of the more sustainable choices mango trees are repurposed after their fruit-bearing years, so no tree is felled purely for timber.

Teak wood queen bed teak has the highest natural oil content of the three, making it the most water-resistant option. Particularly suitable for rooms with higher humidity, or for buyers who want the lowest-maintenance timber in the range. The finish holds well without regular re-oiling.

Building a Complete Bedroom Around a Queen Size Bed

A queen size bed rarely stands alone it anchors a room that also needs wooden bedside tables on either side, and often benefits from an accent chair for bedroom in the corner for a reading or dressing spot. All our bedroom pieces — beds, bedside tables, accent chairs are available in matching wood types and finishes. Walnut, natural, and light walnut across the board, so you can coordinate the entire room without sourcing furniture from multiple places.

If the bedroom also has a TV wall, our wooden TV cabinet range includes designs specifically proportioned for bedroom use lower-profile units that don’t compete visually with the bed. The Ulvon TV cabinet is designed explicitly for bedroom use and is available in the same sheesham and walnut finish as most of our queen size beds.

For the rest of the home, our full bedroom furniture range covers everything from storage solutions to study furniture all built in the same workshop, to the same quality standards.
